A campus-wide sticker and poster initiative was developed to encourage students, faculty, and staff at the University of Texas at Austin to get vaccinated. As part of the classroom assignment, we selected an existing WPA poster and updated its design to align with contemporary messaging.

The sticker design complemented the vaccine posters, further emphasizing the importance of reducing the risk of illness, protecting vulnerable members of the community, and promoting the overall health and well-being of the campus.

Brainstorming

The poster designs were inspired the Original WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster retrieved from Time Magazine article: See 18 Gorgeous Public Health Posters From the 1930s (2016) with the objective of reimagining their style for a modern audience or context. To effectively reach the university audience, I aimed to highlight school spirit, use minimal wording, and evoke a sense of accomplishment and joy in participating in the vaccination effort. I was influenced to use the red background from the WPA poster to draw attention to the importance of vaccines. The alignments of the words and font choice brought structure, clarity, and character to the design.
